Meter Monkeys crash through £2k barrier
Thanks to generous sponsorship and some ingenious engineering (who knew a roofbox could be so useful...), the Meter Provida team, aka Meter Monkeys, have raced into the lead in the Fusion Charity Challenge.
The team, led by Rob Whittall of DHL, entered the soap box derby in Richards Castle, Ludlow on 10 July and, although their unique design didn't quite finish, the generous sponsorship from their suppliers and customers ensured that their efforts were well rewarded.
Rob was delighted with the day's outcome: "It was a great day," he said. "As the only new team to the event we were treated very well. There was stiff competition from the likes of Channel Five's Gadget Show and the Lotus graduates team. They managed to clock the top speed of 51.6mph. There were also some very funny entries which must be commended for their humour including a ‘Dads army kart’ and a ‘Yellow submarine’."
A special mention should go to the team's generous sponsors:
Elster Jeavons, Mitras Composites, Landis & Gyr, Leengate, Industrial Ancilaries, FTL, Communisis, Brass fittings (BFS), George Fischer, Sensus, Nelsons for Cartons
And, of course, the Fusion Group for providing the initial build investment and DHL for matching all of the donations.
