Meter Provida helps Kirklees Council deliver first class track record in gas safety.

Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire is passionate about safety, especially when it comes to securing the gas connections in their tenants’ houses.
Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH), who manage the council’s housing services and estates, are regularly required to secure gas meters in vacated properties and minimise the risk of vandalism. For the past six years they have sourced high spec gas anti-tamper meter clamps and spin caps from Meter Provida, the gas connections specialist based in Chesterfield.
“They’re quick and simple to fit but very effective - we’ve never come across one that’s been removed by a member of the public,” says Grahame McKinsley, Assistant Domestic Engineering Manager for the Building Services team.
Tampering and theft of meters are just two of the problems facing the council and with over 4,000 properties vacated per year in Kirklees, the risks associated with damaged gas meters are severe.
KNH is taking the risks seriously and, through the use of the spin caps on its meters is delivering safety and security, over and above the standards required by the national risk assessment process.

Peace of mind and compliance is easy to achieve with Meter Provida's gas meter security range.
The control clamps, spin caps, and spindle adaptors enable shut-off of gas at the meter point, enabling lock-off of the emergency control valve (ECV), thereby preventing the flow of gas past the meter. The range offers security to all known domestic ball valves and traditional plug valves. In virtually all cases the clamps can be fitted without having to remove the handle locking screw thereby avoiding lost components which need to be replaced when the meter is reactivated. The control clamps are designed to be used even in cases where the gas pipe runs close to a wall – a situation which can compromise other clamping alternatives.
